Leimar Garcia Siino is an English Lecturer at Atlantic University College. She finished her PhD in English Literature at the University of Liverpool in 2016 with the thesis "'The tale is the map which is the territory': From Fantasy and Metafiction to Metafantasy and Neil Gaiman".
Her thesis proposed a new theoretical framework for the genre of fantasy, suggesting that it is an inherently metafictive genre, and it used the works of British fabulist Neil Gaiman as a practical study with which to explore a proposed new genre called “metafantasy”.
Dr. Garcia also has an MA in Science Fiction Studies from the University of Liverpool, and a BA in Secondary Education from the University of Puerto Rico.
For five years she was one of the organizers of the seminal “Current Research in Speculative Fiction” (CRSF) - the first postgraduate conference in speculative fiction in the UK, and she is currently serving as the media reviews editor for the SFRA: Review, the journal of the Science Fiction Research Association. Dr Garcia has published articles, reviews, translations, transcriptions, and reports in a number of international academic journals, peer reviewed for Medical Humanities, and served as a consultant for the University of Liverpool’s Being Human festival in 2015. Her research interests include the fantastic and speculative genres, postmodernism, and Victorian and Gothic literature.
